12 Encouraging Bible Verses On Doubt

Use these 12 Bible verses on doubt when you are experiencing fear, worry, and uncertainty to remind you that God is near and above it all.
Doubt is such a common struggle. I’ve doubted myself and missed out on living out my purpose. I’ve doubted God, giving way to fear and worry. I’ve doubted friends, sinking into a hopeless world of “what-ifs.” Doubt has left me worried, stuck, and unable to do what I was created to do.
How do you navigate through times like this? How do you get out of your head, show up and live the life you were meant to live?
Whether you are doubting God, your relationships, your future, or yourself, God’s Word is full of encouragement to help you get out of this place you are in. I pray that these words are able to guide you out of the pit of doubt and give you the freedom to live this life knowing God is with you every step of the way.
Doubt can be an endless pit that is hard to pull yourself out of. But it does not have to be this way and you definitely do not have to do it alone.
Scriptures on Doubt

1. Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9
How comforting to know that our God is with us wherever we go! He is the One that tells us to not be afraid for He is with us. What do we have to be afraid of when our Protector is near?
What do you have to be afraid of?
Take a moment and think about what fears you have. Think about what discourages you.
Then remind yourself that God is with you through it all. Let us be strong and courageous knowing that our Lord is walking with us!
2. Psalm 23:4
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Psalm 23:4
The darkest valley…even in the darkest valley, I will not fear!
How encouraging to know that God is with me even when I feel like my world around me is crumbling. Even when I feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel, God is with me, and the same goes for you.
God is holding you so tight. He will never let go of you.
If you are ever feeling stuck, discouraged, in the deepest darkest depths of this life I encourage you to listen to “You Never Let Go” by Matt Redman. It is an older song, but it is still so relevant to today.
It is so encouraging to know that this dark period that you may be going through will end. You will make it through. You are not alone.
I have survived 100% of my worst days so far.
3. Psalm 27:1
The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?Psalm 27:1
Remember when you were younger transitioning from having a “night light”, to sleeping without it? I remember being terrified sleeping in the dark. If I heard any sound while I was in bed, I imagined the worst case scenario. I’d cover my head with blankets, trying to hide from whatever it may be.
But sometimes I would actually gather up the strength to get out of bed, grab my flashlight, and go see what made that noise. When I would shine that light and look around, I would realize it was just my dog moving around, or the A/C turned on, or it was the refrigerator cooling down.
It turned out, those noises weren’t so scary in the light.
Do you hide from things happening in your life right now, especially the unknowns that you can’t see clearly?
What if, instead of standing paralyzed, you picked up a flashlight?
God provides that light for us. The Lord is your flashlight! He is the light that brings Truth, safety, provision, and the answers we so desperately seek. His Word shows me when things aren’t what they seem and promises that I can do those hard things with Him.
When you have feelings of fear, or doubt ask God to be that light to shine on those things that are scaring you. Ask Him to be with you and to help you through it. What should you fear with God by your side?
4. Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6
When those doubts of, “Am I doing what I was created to do?”, or “I am not qualified to do this…”, or “I don’t know what I am doing with my life…”, etc. take over you, go to this verse.
All those statements that you have asked yourself, what do they have in common? They all lean on your understanding. Those statements do not take into account what God knows you can do!
When you submit to God, He will lead you. He will make those doubts disappear by making your path straight. He knows you better than you know yourself. He has an eternal perspective while our own view is so small.
Trust in Him, submit yourself to Him, and He will lead you where you are supposed to go and equip you to do what He created you to do.
5. Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
What a great picture this verse has painted!
In the midst of your doubt, God will give you strength. He will help you!
God will even reach down and pick you up with His “righteous right hand”. He will protect you and comfort you.
6. Isaiah 41:13
For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
Isaiah 41:13
Here, again, is another reminder that God is right beside you.
The enemy loves to convince us that we are alone, that we’re the only one struggling, but that’s never the Truth.
In the midst of your troubles, He has taken your hand and will guide you through it. He will remind you to not fear for He is with you and here to help you.
When you have doubt, pray. Ask Him to come take your hand and walk with you through this.
7. Jeremiah 29:11-13
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:11-13
How comforting to know that God has a plan laid out for you already! His plans are not there to harm you, they are not there to scare you. His plans are to give you “hope and a future.”
Everything that is happening right now is happening for a reason. God has a masterful way of weaving all things together for our good (which we tend not to see until afterward – hindsight is 20/20, right?).
When you have fears or doubts, call to Him. Tell Him your fears, tell Him your doubts. He will listen to you. He says it right here in this verse.
You are not a burden to Him. That is the Evil One leading you further from God. Don’t let him win. Go to God with whatever you have! Big or small and he will listen to you.
8. Matthew 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:34
If you know me well, you know that I am a planner. I plan everything! I plan my days out hour by hour, my family’s meals for the week, when we go see family and friends, etc.
Being a planner, sometimes it is a fine line between planning tomorrow and not worrying about tomorrow and whether the plans that I have made will be good enough to prepare me for whatever the day brings.
It’s hard to not worry about providing for my family. But as I worry about my future plans, I forget about living in the present. I end up getting so overwhelmed by future problems that may or may not happen (there’s that land of “what-ifs” again!) and the problems of the present that it paralyzes me and steals so much joy from my days.
Earlier in the passage, in verse 25 it says “Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?” Life is more than the plans I make.
I highly encourage you to bookmark, highlight, post-it note, or underline, Matthew 6:25-34. Whenever you are feeling anxious or worried go back and read this entire passage to yourself. Remind yourself that God will take care of you. He will provide for you. His plans are perfect.
9. Luke 1:37
For no word from God will ever fail.
Luke 1:37
God will never fail me. And God will never fail you!
All those promises He has made, He has kept. In those times of doubt, remember that God will never fail you. He is with you and will help you through hard times.
God is not hoping for you to fail, He wants to see you succeed. He wants to help you succeed.
Trust that God is who He says He is and you are who God says you are – a beloved child of the King, made on purpose, for a wonderful purpose.
10. Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28
We have all experienced those times where nothing is working out. It feels like everything is going wrong and nothing is working as it should.
That’s when doubt loves to creep in. You wonder why God would let things happen the way that they do, you doubt your abilities, you doubt God’s goodness, you doubt His provision, and so many other things.
Take a look at this verse. All things work out for those who love God. Maybe not how you expected things to go, but God is working for your good in all things.
Remember that God has a plan for you. Plans that are not to harm you but to give you hope and a future. These things may not be working out how you think they should, but God has so much planned for you. These things are going according to His plan.
Submit to Him, and trust in Him to know that He will work things out. That greater and better things are ahead. Remember, you have been called according to His purpose.
11. Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Philippians 4:6
I can say from experience, it can be hard to go to God when times are hard. I know that is true for many people as well.
Why is it so hard to go to God when life gets tough? Is it because we feel like we can fix it ourselves? Are we embarrassed? Is it because we don’t want to face what is happening?
In those moments, it feels more natural to let worry wash us away, doesn’t it? Fear washes over us in a way that makes us feel completely helpless.
But we’re not. We may not get to choose when tough things happen to us but we can always choose how to respond to those situations.
In every situation, we should pray. Even when we are anxious, worried, and scared. Pray and ask Him for help. Ask Him to walk beside us in the hard times. Ask Him to help us with our anxiousness.
We are not a burden to Him. He wants to hear us and helps us through our times of need. You are not alone and God wants to hear your heart, even when it’s breaking.
12. Philippians 4:13
I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:13
I don’t know about you, but this verse empowers me so much.
“I can do all this through HIM who gives me strength.”
It takes the pressure off of me. I can’t do all things because I practice them enough. I can’t do all things when I’m strong enough or perfect enough.
I can do all things when I surrender, acknowledge how much I need him, and lean into HIS strength, the One who never fails.
This gives me the courage to go out and conquer whatever lies ahead because I know my God is with me. I know He will give me the strength to overcome whatever is in my way.
With His strength, I don’t have to fear or doubt because I know I can get through it. I can do it. And I wholeheartedly believe you can too.
