Premier Protein Instant Pot Yogurt Recipe
This Premier Protein Instant Pot Yogurt recipe is a healthy breakfast recipe that is surprisingly easy to make in mason jars right in the pot.
If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know I am a HUGE fan of Instant Pot yogurt. I’ve made that recipe more times than I can count!
But I didn’t love that there was so much sugar from the creamer used in that recipe. Yogurt can be finicky to set up properly, so I wasn’t able to play around with the ingredients as much as I normally would.
But I stumbled upon an amazing discovery!
Premier Protein shakes can be used instead of the creamer, which makes this version of Instant Pot yogurt lower in calories and lower in sugar!
A 4oz serving of this yogurt only has 53 calories and 2 g of sugar!
The biggest thing you need to know about this yogurt is that it will not be as thick as my other yogurt recipe.
I don’t want you to make it thinking you’ll end up with a really thick, Greek yogurt-like texture. This recipe creates more of a traditional yogurt texture.
You are welcome to strain it to get the thicker texture in a mesh strainer (or a yogurt-specific strainer like this).

How To Make Premier Protein Instant Pot Yogurt
First, gather your jars and ingredients.
Pour the milk, creamer, and starter into the pitcher and shake it up well so that it’s all combined.
Now, pour it into the jars.
You will notice some foam/froth on top and especially as you pour the last of the mixture into your jars. Don’t worry about that! Just keep pouring it all in. It won’t stay frothy or affect the quality of your yogurt.
Pour 1 cup of water into the bottom of your Instant Pot.
Now, carefully stack your jars into your pot. After a lot of trial and error, I have mastered a very specific way of doing this, so make sure to read the section below where I show/describe exactly how to stack the jars into your pot successfully!
Once the jars are all inside, place your lid onto your pot.
You are welcome to use a glass lid for this recipe.
I just use the lid that came with my pot. This recipe doesn’t come to pressure, so don’t worry about whether the valve on your lid is set to sealing or not.
Now, press the yogurt button and set the timer.
The amount of time you choose affects the tartness of your yogurt.
8 hours will make your yogurt less tart.
10 hours will make your yogurt more tart (some people even swear by 12 hours!).
I’ve found that either 8 1/2 or 9 hours work best to create the taste we love.
When the cooking cycle is done, you simply remove the Instant Pot lid, cover your jars and move them to the refrigerate to set overnight (don’t skip that part!).
Some people cover their containers with foil to avoid the condensation, but I’ve never had a problem with it. If you’d like, you can pour off any extra condensation before you refrigerate it. There’s never been enough condensation for me to worry about that step, though!
The only time we’ve noticed extra liquid in our jars is when they accidentally tip over in the refrigerator. That seems to almost act like a strainer, creating thicker Greek yogurt with whey you can either stir back in or pour off if you’d like.
How To Stack Mason Jars In Your Instant Pot
You will use 4 8oz jars and 9 4oz jars for this recipe. They fit perfectly in my Instant Pot that way, but there is a very specific way that I stack them.
I used to use all smaller jars on the bottom layer, but found they didn’t consistently set. I have not had that problem now that I place my 4 large jars on the bottom layer.
So, on the bottom layer, place your 4 large jars toward the front of your pot (if you place them toward the back, you may have trouble closing your lid) along with 3 small jars. On the 3 small jars, I screw on the outer metal ring so that I can stack jars on top of them.
For the top layer, I place 3 jars directly on top of the metal-ringed jars and I stack the other 3 small jars resting on the rims of the large jars (off-set between 2 jars, not directly on top of them).
What To Serve With This Yogurt For A Balanced Breakfast
As someone who has lost 100 pounds, I’ve discovered that a protein-rich breakfast is one of the keys to keep my eating on track all day long. I definitely don’t consider a 53-calorie container of yogurt to be a full breakfast!
I just use this yogurt as a part of a well-rounded breakfast.

Can I Substitute Ingredients?
I have not tried other flavors of Premier Protein (yet), so I can’t verify that any flavor but vanilla works, but I’m hopeful that they will!
You are welcome to substitute other yogurts for the Chobani. I do recommend you use a high-quality brand. Every time I’ve used a store brand of plain yogurt, it hasn’t set well, so I stick with Chobani or Fage. I would recommend using PLAIN yogurt (not flavored).
The 2% Fairlife milk is very important for this recipe. You may make substitutions, but it MUST be ultra-pasteurized milk. Because this yogurt uses the cold start method and the milk is not boiled, for the yogurt to set properly, it must be ultra-pasteurized.
I also do not recommend using lower fat milk (like 1% or skim). It results in a much thinner yogurt that just doesn’t set as nicely.
Do NOT use chocolate Fairlife milk. It will not set properly.
How To Make A Half Batch In Your 3-Quart Instant Pot
A full batch of this yogurt will not fit in the smaller 3-quart Instant Pot and, unfortunately, the shorter 4oz jars that I use in my regular recipe will not fit in the 3-quart.
You MUST use the tall 4oz jars (like the ones below) for them to fit into your pot.
You will be able to fit four of the tall 4oz mason jars into your pot side-by-side. There will not be room for a trivet (don’t worry…you don’t need it!) or for stacking multiple layers of jars, so just place your four jars directly into the cup of water at the bottom of your pot.
Use half the amounts of Fairlife milk, Premier Protein shake, and plain yogurt and follow the rest of the directions.
When you fill your jars, they will be very full, almost to the top.
**Each jar is 2 servings, 8 servings total, 4 oz yogurt per serving.
**Each serving of yogurt is 2 points on MyWW Green, Blue, and Purple plans.
- 1 (52 oz) container Fairlife 2% milk
- 1 cup vanilla Premier Protein shake (I haven’t tested other flavors yet, but they should work!)
- 2–3 Tbs yogurt starter (either plain store-bought yogurt like Chobani or from a previous batch)
- 1 cup water
- Mix together milk, Premier Protein shake, and starter in a large container.
- Pour into mason jars.
- Pour 1 cup water into Instant Pot insert.
- Gently stack mason jars in pot, according to diagram above.
- Close lid, press yogurt button, and set time for 8-10 hours (9 hours is our favorite).
- When yogurt cycle is complete, remove jars, cover with lids, and move to the fridge for yogurt to set overnight.
